Confined to the sea shores, piping plovers have co-existed with Cape Codders since the days of the Pilgrims.

The problem lies with beachgoers who leave trash behind which attracts other wildlife that shouldn’t be there. This provides food for animals such as foxes, crows and coyotes who then find the eggs and chicks of the piping plover, thereby reducing their numbers over time.
