The Journal of Caribbean Ornithology has published a review on Herb Raffaele’s third edition book, A Guide to the Birds of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Joseph M. Wunderle, Jr. of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry, writes that this edition includes a user-friendly format and new illustrations of birds. There are also status updates on the region’s 347 bird species along with their conservation status.
Wunderle mentions the authors’ desire to encourage and educate about the importance of conservation and appreciation of the birds in these regions. Identification of species has been made even easier by grouping the photo with the text on facing pages. 87 plates in all, each accompanied by text descriptions of behavior and physical characteristics. This in itself should make it a breeze for anyone to quickly find the bird they’re searching for while outdoors.
Overall, he declares the book to be a fantastic guide which anyone visiting the regions should have, as well as bird enthusiasts to add to their collection. You can purchase it on Amazon by clicking the button below!
